The Jewish Heritage Centre Essay Contest For Grades 9 and 10 (NEW  IN 2026)

New for 2026: The Jewish Heritage Centre is pleased to offer an additional essay contest for Manitoba students in grades 9 and 10 Students are invited to submit essays on the subject of the Shoah (Holocaust) and or human rights.  A monetary prize will be awarded to the winner.

Essays will be judged for proficiency in conducting research, presentation of issues, coherence, and writing skills (including style, grammar, and accuracy). Submissions must be 1000-1500 words in length, in WORD format, typed double-spaced, and neatly presented. All sources must be properly cited in footnotes, endnotes, or in-text citation and a bibliography of works cited must be included.  Essays must be reviewed by teachers before submission in order to ensure a clean copy. Electronic submissions are welcome. All students should include their name, school, grade,and an email address.

Deadline for submissions is June 15 of each calendar year.

The Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada may decide in any given year not to award the prize should the submissions not meet the expectations as outlined in the criteria above.
