Once again, the Gray Academy of Jewish Education and Jewish Heritage Centre are proud to present their annual student art exhibit. This year, Grade 9 and 10 students have expressed their artistic sensibilities by creating drawings of Jewish businesses of the past based on the photo collection of the Jewish Heritage Centre.
Their participation is a clear indication of their commitment to bringing to the public consciousness the beauty and vitality of Jewish culture. Each drawing (and corresponding caption) is uniquely invested with the student’s heightened awareness of his or her Canadian Jewish identity as well as the importance of the artistic medium . The range of businesses on display are a clear reflection of the inestimable contribution Jews have played in Manitoba’s socio-economic landscape.
The drawings produced are a clear reminder that the future of the Jewish community is in good hands. These young people will most assuredly contribute to the perpetuation of a multi-faceted and nuanced Jewish cultural identity that will continue to add texture to Manitoba’s multicultural mosaic.
